    Fellow Nigerians,
I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.

Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.

2015 Election: Mr. President GEJ concedes, calls to congratulate Gen. Buhari

Wow! according to a report circulating the social media channels, Mr. Chude Jideonwu said  Mr. President, Goodluck Jonathan has called to congratulate Gen. Buhari for winning the presidential elections 2015 even though the final results has not yet been announced by INEC. Well, the fact that it remains only but one state to go which also stands in favour of APC no doubt must have sent the signal that it is a lost battle.

Well, it must be noted though that Mr. President action is commendable and a sign that he sue for peace despite loosing the elections.

BSO calls for arrest of Fani-Kayode

Buhari Support Organization, BSO, has alleged that the federal government has entered into an unholy alliance with some Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs with an aim of declaring the PDP winner in the states where the results are yet to be declared public.

The Organization also called for the arrest of the Director, Media and Publicity unit of the PDP presidential campaign organization, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode for announcing on Sunday that PDP was already leading in 23 states even when the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was yet to official declare the results.

BSO spoke through its Media and Publicity Director, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe in a press conference yesterday in Abuja.

Rivers Govt. declares dusk-to-dawn curfew

The Rivers government on Monday declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state with effect from March 30. Mr George Feyii, the Secretary to the State Government, said in a statement in Port Harcourt that the curfew would be effective from 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. and would subsist until further notice.

‘’Residents are by this announcement advised to observe the declaration of curfew from the hours of 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. except for workers on essential duties,’’ the statement.

It said the curfew was aimed at forestalling any breakdown of law and order in the state and ensure protection of lives and property of the people.

‘’ This curfew will subsist until further notice,” the statement added. (NAN)

2015 ELECTION UPDATE: INEC releases presidential election results of some states

Thus far this is the announced results for the presidential election by the INEC under the leadership of the chief returning officer, Prof. Atahiru Jega. INEC announced results for 8 states and the FCT, Abuja. PDP is leading with 2,332,734 votes while APC has 2,302,978 votes, though APC won five states and PDP four states.

Presidential, N’Assembly elections vicious,unprincipled, vulgar and violent –Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has described the presidential and National Assembly elections as the most vicious, unprincipled, vulgar and violent he had ever witnessed.

Soyinka, in an interview with The Guardian UK on Sunday, was quoted as saying, “We’re talking about a very positive response by the public in terms of determination to register and vote but, you know, this has been one of the most vicious, unprincipled, vulgar and violent exercises I have ever witnessed.

“I just hope we won’t go down as being the incorrigible giant of Africa.”

According to Soyinka, the stakes appear to be so high that all scruples have been set aside and it’s very distressing to compare this election with that of 1993, which was one of the most orderly, civilised and resolute elections the country ever had.

The Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, has applauded the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to use the Permanent Voter Card in the general elections which commenced on Saturday.

Tragic: Three INEC staff killed in Benue

Report confirms three adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Benue State have died,  in the course of election duties in the state. The Resident Commissioner of INEC in the state, Prof. Istfanus Dafwang, made this known yesterday while briefing reporters at the state headquarters of INEC in Makurdi.

Prof. Dafwang said the commission also recorded the destruction of its materials at an unnamed location in Guma local government area of the state. He said amongst the dead was a female ad-hoc staff who died on Saturday morning in an accident at Oju local government area, while on her way to her duty post.

ECOWAS declares Nigeria’s presidential poll acceptable

The ECOWAS Observer Mission (EOM) has declared that Saturday’s Presidential election is acceptable and meet the criteria of being free and transparent. The declaration was made by the mission’s head and former President of Ghana, John Kuffour, in Abuja on Sunday.

Kuffour expressed satisfaction with the commitment made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, security agencies and various entities on the electoral process.

He observed that the turnout of voters was generally high with a laudable participation of women and young people who displayed commendable level of patience and discipline.

“Security agents were present at most of the polling stations and on patrols in and around the cities as peaceful atmosphere prevailed in most parts of the country,” he said. The mission also noted that INEC officials demonstrated good knowledge and compliance with voting procedures.

ELECTION UPDATE: General Buhari of APC wins in Ogun state and leads in Abuja polls result

The state Collating Officer, Duro Oni, announced that APC Presidential candidate, Gen Buhari is the winner of the Presidential election in Ogun state.  The INEC officer announced the results at the commission's secretariat in Ogun state this night stating that the total of 559,613 votes cast, Gen Buhari pulled 308,290 to defeat President Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who pulled 207,950. APC won in 13 local governments while PDP won in 7.

While in Abuja, INEC this evening released results for FCT, Abuja and thus far APC leads. APC won with 10,853 votes while PDP scored 7,762. The result was announced by the INEC, Returning Officer, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Evuti of the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Abuja further explained to journalists that the council has 10 wards and the total number of registered voters is 42, 401, while accredited voters is 20, 017.

The Chief Returning Officer of INEC in Ekiti state, declares President Jonathan won in all the 16 Local Government Areas of the State in yesterday’s presidential election.

The Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Biyi Daramola said president Jonathan scored a total of 176,474 votes while APC presidential candidate Gen. Buhari got 120,332 votes. The PDP equally won all the three senatorial seats and 6 House of Reps seats in the state

Village in India bans kissing in public

An Indian village in a western coastal state has imposed a ban on couples kissing in public, claiming the sight of such “obscene” behaviour is unwanted by local residents.

The village parliament of Salvador-de-Mundo, eight miles north of Goa’s capital Panaji, unanimously passed a resolution this week warning holidaymakers against engaging in public displays of affection.
