Breaking news: Akpabio escapes death in Abuja auto crash

Immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has been admitted at the National Hospital Abuja after being involved in a motor accident this morning.
His siren-blaring convoy was said to have crashed into other vehicles, with the former governor sustaining injury. The extent of his injury was not disclosed by the doctors at the National Hospital, who claimed that it was the family that had the right to do so.

According to Vanguard report, the Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has visited his predecessor at the National Trauma Center of the National Hospital.

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has appealed to President Buhari to consider the people of the South East in his appointments. According to Vanguard, Governor Okorocha made the appeal during a meeting with selected stakeholders in the state over the weekend

"What I can only do is to continue to appeal to the president to consider the South-East in his appointments. And as far as I am concerned, the president had executed what the office empowers him to do, and it is believed that he did that in the best interest of the nation.

Nigeria basketball team, D'Tigers won its first continental title at the 2015 African Basketball Championship which held in Tunisia yesterday August 30th. The basketball team beat defending champions Angola by 74 points to 65.

Their victory at yesterday's match gave them automatic qualification to participate in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

A goat in Muzuwerani Kwa Ndomo, Kilishi County, Kenya gave birth to a kid with two fore legs and four hind legs. This is the third delivery for the mother goat, according to the goat's owner Omar.
"The goat has given birth twice before to normal twins. However, when it came to the third delivery, I was shocked to see the kid having six legs and the reproductive organ located beneath the legs.It uses the same organ to pass both urine and excrement." he said.

Church members chase pastor from church for impregnating maid

There was commotion on Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos as members of the church chased away their pasto for allegedly impregnating his housemaid.
It was learnt that the pastor, Barkuma Andrew, was stopped from leading the church seven months ago when the housemaid, who was also a member of the church, Grace, had complications after aborting the pregnancy.

Andrew had lived with his wife, children, wife’s cousin, Favour, and Grace in a three-bedroomed flat on the church premises before the incident.

Former NSA, Sambo Dasuki’s trial begins Tuesday

The Federal Government will on Tuesday arraign former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly being in possession of firearms without license.

The Department of State Security Service, DSS, had, in a statement by one of its officials, Tony Opuiyo, on August 24, 2015, said that it had charged Dasuki with the alleged offence.
Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, had on Friday assigned the case to Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who is the court’s vacation judge.

Vanguard columnist, Donu Kogbara kidnapped yesterday in PH by gunmen

According to reports, popular Vanguard newspaper columnist and broadcaster, Donu Kogbara, was kidnapped from her home in the Nkpogu area of Port Harcourt early Sunday morning, August 30 by gun men who drove in a CRV SUV. The reason for her kidnap is unknown and no ransom has been demanded for her release by her abductors.

28-year-old Guvnor Ace (born Ronald Samawere) who had earlier been accused of 'dating an ancestor' got married to 68-year-old Lisa Johnson on August 20 in a civil ceremony held at the Uganda Registration Service Bureau in Kampala before friends and family members. Speaking to Uganda’s WBS TV on why he married his wife, the Ugandan dance-hall artiste said that young girls are a financial liability and some are not genuine.

"I have no regrets, because these young girls will ask for airtime and on sending it, they will not even call you, all they do is to beep. All they do is beg!" he said

Boko Haram kills 68 in Borno village

At least 68 people were killed while several others sustained injuries as Boko Haram insurgents invaded Baanu Village in Nganzai local government area of Borno State on Friday night.

A resident of the area, Yuram Musa, who fled to Maiduguri to avoid the attack, said the insurgents came on horses at about 8:30 shooting sporadically and killing everyone they came across.

He said: “We had to flee into the bush and hide and after they left, we return back to pick some of our belongings. I counted 68 corpses, some were slaughtered, while others were with gunshot wounds. The number of those killed is worrisome as corpses littered the streets of the village.

The presidency has released a statement replying former Ministers who worked in Jonathan's administration. In a statement released this evening, the former ministers had asked the Buhari led govt to be sincere in its fight against corruption and not use it as a tool for political witch hunting. In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the presidency said the war against corruption is not a personal one nor a means of political witch hunting and that the fight is not negotiable and does not have friend nor foe.

Give Jonathan administration due credit, former ministers tell President Buhari

Former ministers that served under President Goodluck Jonathan administration have released a statement where they asked the Buhari led government to stop attacking the administration of their former boss and give them some credit. In the statement signed by former Minister of National planning Abubakar Suleiman and released today August 30th, the former ministers listed the various achievements during their tenure, stressing that the successes that have been recorded in the present government was as a result of the good foundation they laid. They urged Buhari to press on with the anti-corruption fight, but that the fight must be done in a fair and non-partisan manner, in line with due process, and not as a political witch-hunt. Kenya rules the rest of the world at the IAAF World Championship in Beijing

Kenya rules the rest of the world as they finished on top for the first time at the IAAF World Championship in Beijing.... This was historic.  Kenya topped the world at the 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing with 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze. 26-year-old Asbel Kiprop crossed the line in 3:34.40. to win the Men's 1500m gold medal which ensured Kenya finished top.

Jamaica finished second overall with 7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze to make a total of 12 medals while United States of America came third with 5 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze to sum up the best top three with 18 medals in total. Check the table below;

Reject public funds stolen by your Husbands-Sultan advises women

The Sultan of Sokoto and President Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, advised Muslim women to fight against corruption by rejecting stolen public funds from their husbands who are public office holders. He said this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital yesterday during the formal opening of the 30th annual national conference of Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN).He also advised wives of state governors and emirs to lead the campaign for girl-child education.

The ongoing probe of former Pres Jonathan's administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to find out the  dealings behind the alleged purchase of 3 mobile stages, that cost $6.9m, Presidency source has said.

According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

17 year old boy charged with raping a 9year old family friend since the age of 3

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with raping a nine-year-old family friend at a state fair.
Jonathan Fleming was arrested at the Maryland State Fairgrounds after the victim's father became concerned when he saw the pair together. An investigation by the Crimes Against Children Unit alleges that Fleming has been sexually abusing the girl since she was about 3 years old.

The girl reportedly told police that Fleming has forced her several times a year to engage in sex acts at different fairs in Maryland and elsewhere.

24 year old mother dumps new born baby in a nylon bag on the street

According to Mr and Mrs Osarhiakhi Ebohon, on June 13, 2015, a baby was dumped at Obazuaye Street in Evbuareke Quarters, Uselu, Benin City, at about 11am. Residents saw a newborn baby wrapped in a black nylon bag. The Ebohons, among other residents, placed curses on whoever might have thrown the child away. The police was invited to take away the baby who was later sent to the Ministry of Women Affairs in Edo State.

That night, Mrs. Ebohon observed that their oldest daughter, Joy, was acting different, so she tried to find out what her daughter’s problem was, to no avail. So she told the husband to probe Joy to know what the problem was.

Amaechi fires back: Wike also corrupt; I won’t appear before his commission

Immediate past governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, yesterday, accused his successor, Mr Nyesom Wike, of also being  corrupt. AmaechiThe former governor spoke, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, while addressing loyalists of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Amaechi said he was in the Rivers State capital  to quietly attend a church program and will leave same day, adding that he had clear documents pointing at the alleged corruption acts  of the governor.

Amaechi vowed never to appear before  the Justice  George Omereji Commission of Inquiry investigating alleged sale of  the  assets of the state by his government, insisting that the establishment of the commission did not comply with constitutional provisions.
