Douglas Ward, 26, walked out of the notorious North Sea Camp open prison and checked into the Grade II-listed Cley Hall Hotel, in Spalding, Lincolnshire (bottom right), with his wife Eileen, 27 (together left). Ward, who was serving a 64-month sentence for possession of firearms at the time, brazenly absconded the Category D prison over the August bank holiday weekend.

A court heard he was rumbled when a member of staff at the 15-bedroom boutique hotel became suspicious and checked his Facebook page, which listed him as a 'serving prisoner'. He had posted pictures of himself and his wife (centre and top right) consuming the contents of the minibar, which prompted online friends to ask if he had been released from jail. He responded by bragging that he was simply 'out for the day'.

A heart broken megastar Jim Carrey has said the death of his girlfriend hit him “with a lightning bolt”.

Military action alone can’t defeat war on terror- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement delivered on Tuesday at the Global Leaders’ Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism organised by President Barack Obama on the sideline of the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York said military action alone would never be enough to end terrorism and extremism around the globe. He said good governance, transparency, accountability and rule of law, are some of the best ways to start the process of ridding the world of terrorism. He said while Nigeria acknowledges the efforts by the UN and the international community to tackle ISIS, a lot more needs to be done.

Two robbery suspects drowned inside a canal in the Ojota area of Lagos while escaping with a mobile phone and N13,000, snatched from their victim.

According to Punch Metro, the deceased were part of a five-man gang, which had unleashed terror on the Olusosun, Ojota, area, before attacking the male victim, whose name had yet to be given, at about 8pm around the Olusosun dump.

LL Cool J's oldest son arrested for criminal trespassing

26 year old Najee Smith, the son of rapper-actor LL Cool J, was arrested early Tuesday following a fight in a Manhattan restaurant according to several reports.
Smith refused to leave the restaurant Catch in New York's Meatpacking District and started fighting with security guards who then called police.

Man who Stabbed, Removed 74-year-old Dad's Heart Turns Himself In

Nelson Oamen, the 34-year-old accused of stabbing his father, Ehiremen, to death in the Ipaja area of Lagos, has turned himself in to the police. Punch Metro reports that Nelson, who had earlier escaped from the house, reported at the Ipaja Police Division on Thursday. He had been reportedly transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for further investigation.

On Monday, September 21, 2015, the suspect, said to be a drug addict, allegedly stabbed his 74-year-old father, an indigene of Edo State, to death in their apartment in Block 272, Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area.

Driver crushes friend after sharing ogogoro in Benin

Tragedy struck in Benin City on Monday, as a driver attached to a private firm in Edo State, crushed his friend, Pa Egbe Eghobawaye,  to death, after sharing a local gin, popularly known as Ogogoro, together.

The tragedy started when the driver was said to have visited Pa Eghobawaye, who was the Odionwere (oldest man) of Nekpenekpen Street, off First East Circular road in Benin City, and requested for the local gin from the wife of the deceased, who deals in the local gin.

After sharing the Ogogoro with Pa Eghobawaye, said to be in his 80s, he decided to go back to his office, but lost control of the vehicle and crushed his friend to death, to the surprise of residents of the area.

Afenifere condemns Falae's kidnap, calls for ban on activities of Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land

Following the kidnap of former presidential candidate Olu Falae by suspected fulani herdsmen in Ondo state last week Monday, leaders of Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, have called for a ban to be placed on the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land.

The group also condemned the kidnapping of the 77 year old elder statesman. They made their position known after an emergency meeting in Akure, Ondo state yesterday September 28th. Speaking through its Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, the group said;

Hajj stampede survivor say Saudi Arabia paramedics favoured white victims over Africans

One of the survivors from the recent stampede in Saudi Arabia, an indigene of Osun State, resident in Warri, Delta State revealed that paramedics ignored African pilgrims and concentrated on rescuing white and Caucasian victims which resulted in a high casualty rate among Africans. He said he was stuck in the midst of dead bodies for more than two hours and there was no help from paramedics, who favoured whites over blacks.

Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better and the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most that has made it possible for evil to triumph – His Royal Majesty Haile Selassie 1, Emperor of Ethiopia.

IF there was ever a time to remember the words of Haile Selassie and speak out against evil this is it. With the abduction of the elder statesman and June 12 struggle hero, Chief Olu Falae, from his home by a group of Fulani herdsmen in south western Nigeria it is time for us to seriously consider the expulsion of all Fulani herdsmen from the southern part of our country.

We thank God and commend the efforts of the Inspector-General of the Nigerian police that Chief Falae was returned home safely after a harrowing three days. Given his status in Yoruba land, had this not been so there would have been cataclysmic consequences for the unity of our country.

It is because we wish to avoid such a scen…

Abductors freed me after 5m ransom was paid, Falae admits

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae, yesterday admitted the payment of ransom to the Fulani herdsmen who kidnapped him for 72 hours.

A dependable source confided in Vanguard that N5 million was paid as ransom before the former Minister for Finance was released last week Thursday.

Chief Falae, who received the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Alani Akinrinade in his residence in Akure, however, did not say the exact amount paid to the kidnappers.
