Wisdom Undiluted for teenagers chapter 6 (part A) BY ROYALQUEEN

This is only a part of chapter 6

Wisdom Six: DRESSING FANCIFULLY IS GOOD BUT DRESSING FROM ‘INSIDE OUT’ IS BETTER

Dressing fancifully is good! Facial make-ups, nice dress, shoes, wristwatches are quite good, but know this - it can attract but cannot captivate. Just the same way a book with a very beautiful cover but without an interesting content can attract you but can’t get you glued.
Have you ever been with someone not so fanciful but so interesting that you ask yourself ‘what is it about this person that has captivated me so much?’ This only proves that the real us is not who we are on the outside but who we are from the inside.

Dressing from ‘inside out’ is the ability to exude positive aura from within that it becomes so visible for others to see and admire! It’s just the most expensive perfume with the most pleasant scent. One special key that can open this beauty from within is; ‘Self-Love”.

Self-love is not a destination; it’s a practice. Self-love is the foundation on which we build a happy life. It does not allow negative emotions to run you down. It preaches your excellence.
Someone frowned at me a day I spoke on ‘self-love’. She said, “Do you encourage people that are criminals to love themselves just the way they are?”

Well to start with, we were told to love others just as we love ourselves. You can’t be a criminal if you love yourself, you can’t engage in ugly habits if you truly love yourself.
If I walk up to you and say ‘love yourself’, what I’m simply saying is that you should engage in things that would add value and not things that will destroy you.
What is love? Love is kind, Love is trustworthy, love is not selfish, and love can’t hurt. So before you can give, you must have.

Do you have genuine love for yourself? If you apply the principle of love to yourself you will find it easy to apply it when dealing with others. From the definition of love as stated above; if you hurt people intentionally, it only proves that you don’t love yourself but selfish. The problem most times is that we mistake ‘Selfishness’ for ‘Love’. This is why selfish people prove their love for self by being greedy, gluttonous, stingy, and marking territories. Selfishness is cloned with greed. Greed does not express love either for oneself or to others.

During my undergraduate days, a girl in my hostel was dating a young man. She lived with him. According to her, she loved him so much.

Whenever the boy goes out with friends she trails him and if the young man makes the mistake of having another girl around she comes out and creates a scene. She was asthmatic and always does things to hurt herself because she wanted her boy-friend to stick by her side. One day, during one of those ugly incidents she threatened to end her life and actually attempted to do so. Does she love herself? I don’t think so.

Self-love is having regard for your well being and happiness. It’s not just going for a manicure, pedicure, going to the cinema or having a bubble bath. It goes beyond that.

What has self-love got to do with dressing from inside-out? When you truly love and appreciate yourself, there are things you do differently. And that is the main reason joy bubbles from your inside, and also flows down to others.
